UEH Honorary Professor Award Ceremony And Western Sydney Graduation Ceremony 2022

On the morning of July 17, 2022, University of EconomicsHo Chi Minh City (UEH) held the Awarding Ceremony of Honorary Professor and the Graduation Ceremony for the new Bachelors and Masters of Western Sydney University at Hall A.116. The ceremony took place with joy, pride and solemnity.

The ceremony was attended by delegates from UEH, Western Sydney University, Australian Consulate in Ho Chi Minh City and Professors, Deputy Heads of Units of UEH University, lecturers of training institutes, parents and students.

On behalf of UEH, there was the participation of: Prof. Dr. Nguyen Dong Phong – Chairman of the School Council; Prof. Dr. Su Dinh Thanh – Rector; Assoc. Prof. Dr. Tran Ha Minh Quan – Director of ISB Institute; Dr. Douglas Foster – Vice President of the ISB Institute; Dr. Tran Phuong Thao – Deputy Director of ISB Institute.

On behalf of of Western Sydney University, there are: Prof. Peter Shergold – President of School Board; Prof. Barney Glover – Principal; Prof. Deborah Sweeney – Vice-Chancellor (Research, Enterprise & International); Prof. Yi-Chen Lan – Vice President (Global Development) and Director of Vietnam Branch; Prof. Amir Mahmood – Dean of the Faculty of Business.

On behalf of Australian Consulate, there was the attendance of Ms. Sarah Hooper – Australian Consul General in Ho Chi Minh.

Professor Emeritus Award Ceremony for Professor Peter Shergold AC and Professor Barney Glover AO

Professor Emeritus is a noble title in the field of education, which confers on the higher academic merits that researchers achieve in their careers. This title was given to Professors Peter Shergold and Professor Barney Glover for their great contributions to Vietnamese education.

Prof. Dr. Nguyen Dong Phong – Chairman of the UEH School Council – stated: “With extensive experience in the field of internationalization of education and training, Professor Peter Shergold has made a lot of important contributions to the internationalization strategy of University of Western Sydney as well as contributed to the sustainable development between the University of Economics Ho Chi Minh City and Western Sydney University”.

Prof. Dr. Su Dinh Thanh, Rector of UEH, affirmed: “Professor Glover’s esteemed career includes considerable expertise and experience at the highest levels in university management and a degree in business leadership. Building research infrastructure, strategic partnerships and fostering a culture of research excellence along with the successful commercialization of the University’s intellectual property are hallmarks of the long tenure of the University. Professor Glover in a senior executive role in the Australian higher education sector. Throughout his career, he has demonstrated a deep commitment to widening participation and exploring innovative approaches to accessing higher education.”

The title of Honorary Professor was awarded to Professors Peter Shergold AC and Professor Barney Glover AO for their massive contributions to Vietnamese education.

117 new bachelors and 34 new Masters graduating from Western Sydney University

Bachelor of Western Sydney is a joint training program between ISB Institute, University of Economics Ho Chi Minh City and Western Sydney University. Students graduate with degrees directly from Western Sydney University, meeting the highest standards of the Australian education system and being recognized by employers around the world. At the graduation ceremony on July 17, 2022, Western Sydney University awarded degrees to 117 new Bachelors and 34 new Masters.

In the opening part, Prof. Peter Shergold AC, President of the University of Western Sydney, shared: “The past two years must have been a tumultuous and difficult time. The COVID-19 pandemic has tested us, but it has strengthened the schools resolve. I would like to confirm to the students: You did your job well, not only did you complete the program but completed it at a time that has never happened before. Graduation is a very important occasion. It is important for new graduates because it marks the end of your studies, or at least, turning a new page in your learning path, claiming your rights and privileges, and responsibilities that come with being an alumnus of Western Sydney University. It’s also a special occasion for your family and friends, who have supported and nurtured you throughout your studies, and are now joining you in celebrating your success.

Prof. Barney Glover AO – President of Western Sydney University – also emphasized: “Graduation marks a turning point when you have reached an important milestone, but as you will realize, it is not the end of the journey. Today, you have graduated from Western Sydney University. Be proud of that achievement. Enjoy the benefits that will accrue to you throughout your life. Your degree will present extraordinary opportunities, many of which you would not have expected. Use this knowledge to live a life of reflection, integrity, and purpose.”

The new Bachelors and new Masters of Western Sydney have officially closed their memorable journey on their educational path. Although this door is closed, the future door will open ahead. We hope that you will always be confident, firmly moving forward to achieve more success. Always shine and shine on the path you have chosen.
