UEH Collaborated with the Department of Education and Training Vinh Long on Organizing the Conference “Sharing Experience of Online Teaching; Sharing and Transferring Online Lesson-supportive Tools for Elementary, Middle, and High Schools”

The development trend of the 4.0 technological age and the huge impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic have led to modifications in all aspects of our social lives in which education was involved. Organizing online activities has become more acquainted with organizations and institutions. Especially, during the pandemic time, depending on the real statement of each region and each study level, Heads of the Provincial Department of Education and Training and Board of Management of education institutions implemented online teaching and learning to assure the development process as well as the training progress. Simultaneously, each management level actively deployed supportive solutions with the aim of guaranteeing the quality of training of the online teaching and learning process.

On the morning of April 28th, 2022, University of Economics Ho Chi Minh City (UEH) cooperated with the Department of Education and Training Vinh Long on organizing a conference with the theme “Sharing Experience of Online Teaching; Sharing and Transferring Online Lesson-supportive Tools for Elementary, Middle, and High Schools”.

Attending the conference, in terms of the Department of Education and Training Vinh Long, was Mr. Trinh Van Ngoan – Deputy Director. Representing UEH was Dr. Bui Quang Hung – Deputy Secretary of Committee Party, Vice President and Director of UEH Vinh Long Campus. Besides, the conference was pleased to welcome and receive the concerns and participation of the delegates attending online and in-person who were Heads of Provincial Departments of Education and Training, Heads, and teachers of universities, elementary, middle, high schools, and kindergartens in Vinh Long Province and provinces of the Mekong River Delta.

The overview of the conference

At the conference, Mr. Trinh Van Ngoan – Deputy Director of Department of Education and Training Vinh Long asserted: “This today’s conference with the theme “Sharing Experience of Online Teaching; Sharing and Transferring Online Lesson-supportive Tools for Elementary, Middle, and High Schools” is held topically and strategically. Confronting the complicated COVID-19 pandemic condition, the online teaching and learning implementation is a flexible, timing, and suitable option and is accepted and supported by most people within the province. This conference is also an occasion for the Heads of the Department and Leaders as well as Boards of Management of kindergartens, elementary, middle, high schools, and universities to discuss complications requiring solutions in deploying online learning to promote the achievements and results that the education system has acquired in the past time and to improve conducting effectively the missions of maintaining, advancing the quality of education, and responding timely to the COVID-19 statements in the upcoming time”.

Delivering a speech at the conference, Dr. Bui Quang Hung assumed: “Currently, lecturers are finding solutions responding to the COVID-19 condition which still remains unstable. Therefore“Online learning” is a crucial solution to maintain the progress of training and education, therefore, helping students not be disadvantaged in their development process. To contribute to the process of digital transition in the field of education in Vietnam in general and provincial education in particular. Since 2021, University of Economics Ho Chi Minh City has deployed the “UEH Global Learning Community Project”  that shares and imparts free of charge supportive software for teachers of middle and high schools: (1) Online teaching organizing software, (2) Testing and evaluation software, (3) Test practicing software for grade-12 high school students, (4) Paper multiple-choice test evaluation software by scanning machines for more than 1,200 teachers and 7,000 students at the Mekong River Delta Region and other provinces of the country. Due to this conference, UEH expects to receive the sharing of the Heads of the Department of Education and Training, Boards of Management of schools and teachers of educational institutions related to conducted tools, benefits as well as drawbacks needing support in the implementation of online teaching. Therefore, we can discuss solutions advancing the training quality of online learning implementation which is the basis for UEH to continue organizing training seminars to support teachers to use effectively online lesson designing tools in the upcoming time”.

At the conference, the representative of Department of Education and Training Vinh Long referred to the evaluation of teaching results in terms of online assessment, mentioned the pros and cons of online teaching and learning assessment, and recommended possible solutions that the Heads of schools and teachers need to do in the upcoming time. University of Economics Ho Chi Minh shared with the delegates their experience to deploy an online period effectively and introduced online teaching supportive tools. Besides, there were the statements of representatives of the following schools: Vinh Xuan High School, Hoa Binh Middle and High School, Le Qui Don Middle School, Nguyen Thong High School, and Tan Quoi A Elementary School on their experience of using teaching, testing, and assessing platforms. Specifically, they are mSchool, Azota, Google Form, K12Online, and the application of UEH Global Learning System to online learning.

The conference was organized via the Hybrid format and received the concerns and discussions of many teachers who are involved in the Boards of Management and teachers of the schools.

Delivering the closing speech, Mr. Trinh Van Ngoan – Deputy Head of Department of Education and Training – evaluated the preparation job with the flexibility and activeness of the Board of Management and teacher of the schools. The teachers had responded rapidly to online teaching and made efforts to assure the quality during the complications of the Covid-19 pandemic in the past time. Simultaneously, he appreciated the units accompanying the education system of the province to have the most responsive solutions, especially the contributions of University of Economics Ho Chi Minh City to the education system of Vinh Long Province. He also suggested the schools continue assessing and collecting experiences themself and reconsider the selection of application, management support, and teaching and assessing tools to make them synthesized, advantageous, and the most effective as well as regarding financial solutions.

In terms of University of Economics Ho Chi Minh City, Master Nguyen Thi Thy Lieu – Standing Deputy Director of Vinh Long Campus – sent her gratitude to the Heads of Vinh Long Department of Education and Training for having collaborated for UEH to accompany the education system of Vinh Long in activities during the past time as follows: participating in the program “Sóng và máy tính cho em”, sending supportive computers to educational institutions to assist teachers in online teaching, training the teachers with the methodology of implementing start-up programs, spreading the knowledge of innovative start-up to students, and diverse conference activities related to digitalization in education. After this conference, according to the plan of cooperating with the Department of Education and Training, UEH would organize a training course on UEH Global Learning  for teachers to prepare effectively their lessons due to supportive tools and suggested the Heads of the Department keep cooperating for UEH to contribute to the education system of the province specifically as follows:

  1. UEH would transfer the Hybrid teaching technology to the function responsible for the facilities of the schools. The instructional files and device-unifying design documents (provided in the training course) can be found here;
  2. UEH would train freely Blended Learning and interactive-increasing tools for learners (intended to take place in 5 sessions) which was planned to be organized in June and July, 2022.
