UEH Expanding Cooperation with Kwangwoon University, Korea

On the occasion of the 90th Anniversary of the establishment of Kwangwoon University (May 20, 2024), the delegation of University of Economics Ho Chi Minh City (UEH) visited Kwangwoon University to demonstrate the strong spirit of friendship in recent times. In this event, Prof.Dr. Nguyen Dong Phong – Chairman of the UEH Council – was honored to receive an Honorary Doctor title for his outstanding contributions in promoting academic cooperation and strengthening the relationship between the two universities in particular and Vietnam – Korea in general.

In the context that Vietnam and Korea upgraded their bilateral relations to a “Comprehensive Strategic Partnership” in December 2022, the cooperation agreements between UEH and Kwangwoon University have significantly contributed to the development of education, expanding the scope of cooperation and deepening bilateral exchanges.

On the occasion of the 90th anniversary of the establishment of Kwangwoon University, the delegation of University of Economics Ho Chi Minh City visited and had an intimate meeting with Ms. Cho Sunyoung – President of Kwangwoon University and Dr. Kim Jongheon – President of Kwangwoon University to tighten the close friendship and positive cooperation between the leaders of the two universities. On this occasion, Prof.Dr. Nguyen Dong Phong – Chairman of the UEH Council – was awarded an Honorary Doctor title by KwangWoon University for his dedication to strengthening the relationship between Vietnam and Korea, his efforts to promote academic cooperation between the two universities along with other outstanding contributions to research projects on economic growth models and public university governance in Vietnam throughout his career.

Speaking at the ceremony, Prof.Dr. Nguyen Dong Phong shared: “I am extremely happy to receive an Honorary Doctor title from Kwangwoon University on the school’s 90th Anniversary. As an educator, I deeply admire the contributions of President Sunyoung Cho and the entire team of Kwangwoon University over the past 90 years to Korean education in particular and the world in general. Congratulations on your recent achievements and hope that Kwangwoon University can continue to develop even more in the future. On this occasion, as the Chairman of the University of Economics Ho Chi Minh City council, I would like to express my support for the cooperation between UEH and Kwangwoon University, promoting educational programs towards sustainability, integration and innovation. Thank you for your valuable cooperation throughout UEH’s recent journey, contributing significantly to the outstanding development of our school in recent times.”

Kwang Woon University, Korea, founded in 1934 with 90 years of experience, is the cradle of quality programs in the fields of science and technology, information technology, business and arts. Possessing a diverse academic environment, dynamic team, combined with advanced facilities and equipment, KwangWoon University is a creative, open and innovative school for all students to develop comprehensively.

University of Economics Ho Chi Minh City has established a deep bilateral relationship with Kwangwoon University in various fields of training, research, consulting and other academic activities such as organizing international seminars and conferences. To be illustrated in details, the two sides cooperate to develop the Robotics and AI dual degree program, communication courses, short-term courses, Hologram exhibition, co- Arttech Fusion international conference, RTD as well as supporting comprehensive doctoral scholarships, supporting experts in design thinking and entrepreneurship and so on.

In the future, the two sides hope to expand to cooperate in providing startups, Deep Tech, and semiconductor programs, and sponsoring Robitic-AI research and programs in the fields of communications, logistics and 3D simulation through Korea House and integrated Glocal Model.

In addition, during this trip, the delegation visited and worked at the Seoul Institute to discuss cooperation issues in developing digital fields in Vietnam, including smart cities, digital transformation, digital economy, smart tourism, etc.
