Within the framework of the ICAEW-Integrated Accounting Program, 14 students of the School of Accounting, College of Business, University of Economics Ho Chi Minh City (UEH) completed the International Internship & Field Trip 2026, held from July 6 to July 25, 2026 in Vietnam and Malaysia. Built on the cooperation among UEH – ICAEW – BDO, the program gave students the opportunity to experience the working environment of an international audit firm in both countries, thereby developing professional competence, a global mindset and career readiness while still at university.
Starting from a training ecosystem that connects the university, the professional body and international enterprises
Over the years, the UEH School of Accounting has developed an international professional training ecosystem with the companionship of ICAEW – the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales – together with its enterprise network, in which BDO, one of the world’s leading audit and advisory networks, serves as a strategic partner in practice-oriented training.
The International Internship & Field Trip 2026 is one of the flagship activities of the UEH – ICAEW – BDO cooperation model, implemented under the tripartite Memorandum of Understanding signed on May 21, 2024. The program brought together 14 students of the ICAEW CFAB Plus Integrated Accounting Program under the guidance of Dr. Nguyen Hoang To Loan – Lecturer at the School of Accounting, UEH College of Business, and the faculty member in charge of the delegation. On this foundation, learners not only engage with international professional standards within their curriculum but also directly experience a global working environment, gradually narrowing the gap between the classroom and the profession.

Two weeks of rotational internship at BDO Vietnam: The first professional “touchpoints” in a real business context
From July 6 to July 17, 2026, 14 students took part in the internship program at BDO Vietnam, observing first-hand the professional working environment of an international audit firm. The delegation was divided into two groups of seven students, undertaking their internships in the weeks of July 6-10, 2026 and July 13-17, 2026 respectively, ensuring that every student could closely follow the day-to-day work of the audit teams at the firm.
Through professional training sessions, career-sharing talks and hands-on experience at the firm, students gained insight into work processes, corporate culture and the expectations regarding knowledge, skills and professional conduct for accounting and auditing talent in an era of integration. It was also an opportunity for learners to apply what they had studied to practice and to define their future career paths more clearly.

… and the journey continued to open up in an international professional environment at BDO Malaysia
Following the program in Vietnam, from July 20 to July 25, 2026, the delegation joined the International Field Trip in Malaysia, with a series of professional activities hosted at BDO Malaysia (Kuala Lumpur) from July 20 to July 23, 2026.
Unlike a conventional company visit, students studied and solved business cases developed from real-world practice in accounting, auditing and business advisory. Working and presenting in teams within an international setting, they honed their problem-analysis skills and built solutions grounded in the professional knowledge acquired at UEH combined with a professional mindset aligned with international standards.
The highlight of the program was the case study presentation and defense before a panel of Partners and senior experts from BDO Malaysia. Beyond presenting their solutions, students engaged in discussion and defended their positions against challenging questions. At the close of the session, the panel gave direct feedback on each team’s analytical ability, quality of solutions and presentation skills.
Notably, on July 23, 2026, BDO Malaysia conducted direct interviews with the students in the delegation. Their performance throughout the program, together with these interviews, forms the basis for BDO Malaysia to consider selecting potential candidates for its international internship program in the near future. This not only motivated students to demonstrate their capabilities but also opened up opportunities for career development and international work experience while still at university.
Through working with leading experts in auditing and advisory, students gained a clearer understanding of the competencies that global firms expect from the new generation of accounting and auditing professionals: from problem-solving thinking, teamwork and professional communication to the ability to present and defend their viewpoints in an international environment.

Alongside the activities at the firm, on July 24, 2026, the UEH delegation held a working session and academic exchange at Sunway University – one of Malaysia’s leading private universities. Representatives of the School of Accounting, UEH College of Business, together with ICAEW, discussed cooperation directions related to the ICAEW ACA program.
In parallel, students explored Sunway University’s facilities, teaching methods and multicultural learning environment, gaining further perspective on international higher education while broadening their understanding of study and career development opportunities across ASEAN.

Realizing the spirit of Glo-cal education through international professional experience
Beyond offering hands-on professional experiences, the program also contributes to realizing UEH’s internationalization orientation in training through a linkage model among the university, the professional body and enterprises. Studying at UEH, engaging with professional standards from ICAEW and directly experiencing the working environment at BDO in both Vietnam and Malaysia have created a comprehensive learning journey, helping students simultaneously develop professional knowledge, career skills, foreign language proficiency and a global mindset.
In the coming time, the School of Accounting will continue to expand its international cooperation network with leading professional bodies and enterprises, creating more opportunities for learners to study, practice and grow in an international environment, thereby training high-quality accounting and auditing human resources that meet the requirements of the regional and global labor market./.
