[UEH 50 Years] The memories of A116 through photos: A place where generations of UEHers have belonged

25 June, 2026

There are spaces that, once named, quietly bring back memories for many generations. A116 Hall is one such place – where every UEHer who has passed through carries a personal story, and over time, those stories have become shared memories of an entire community.

A place linked to professional journeys

For many UEH current and former staff members, A116 is not only a venue for events but also a place that has quietly accompanied each stage of their careers. The place has hosted opening-year meetings that marked new beginnings; academic programs that signaled growth; and important milestones tied to each phase of the University’s development.

In that space, everyone has played different roles – at times a participant, at times an organizer, sometimes in the spotlight, and sometimes behind the scenes, contributing to the seamless success of each program.

These experiences, though not always explicitly named, gradually became part of a lasting, deeply rooted memory that has endured through time.

Where memories are created

In A116, each row of seats is both a place and the beginning of many very specific experiences. It is where people have sat together, listened, and followed each shared piece of stories; it is where they have watched the stage lights during important events.

In those seemingly identical seats, each person carries a different feeling. Sometimes it is pride, sometimes emotion, and sometimes just a calm moment to reflect on one’s work and personal journey. Over time, each seat seems to preserve a part of memory – quietly, yet never fading.

UEH’s traditional A116 Hall has lived in the memories of generations of UEHers

A place that has witnessed various developmental milestones

More than being the venue for annual ceremonies, A116 has been present in all UEH’s transformative milestones – from the post-1975 reconstruction period, through the Doi Moi era, to the journey of affirming autonomy and shaping a multidisciplinary, sustainable university.

Over nearly half a century, A116 has served as a “silent witness” to key turning points: a place where new directions were opened, determination was spread, and generations were connected. The applause, stage lights, and emotional moments are not only personal memories but also link each person to UEH’s enduring journey of development.

It is this continuous presence that has made A116 part of the University’s history – a place that preserves emotions and the developmental imprints of UEH throughout nearly 50 years.

The place that witnessed every growth and development milestone of UEH

Memories from A116 have become a heritage

Time may lead each person in different directions, but the memories of A116 seem to remain – like a shared meeting point of many generations. From very personal experiences, this place has gradually become a collective memory, preserving connections and quiet contributions across each period.

The accumulation over the years has given A116 a deeper meaning, as a place where spiritual values are distilled from the people and the journey of accompanying UEH.

From what remains here, UEH invites our esteemed lecturers, staff, and former staff to share images, materials, and memorable moments at A116. Every contribution is not only a personal memory but also a piece that completes the shared memory, so that the stories may continue and resonate.

A116 has therefore never been just a hall. It is a place where memories are preserved – and have never truly left.
