UEH promotes the innovative startup ecosystem by providing education or related resources
On its development journey, the University of Economics Ho Chi Minh City (UEH) has always aimed to promote sustainable community values to assist local businesses in the startup process through education and related resources.
The UEH Institute of Innovation (UII) under UEH is one of the most active startup support units in the startup ecosystem in Ho Chi Minh City, accompanying founders with innovative solutions and technology applications to solve community issues. The establishment of the UEH Innovation Institute (UII) has enhanced its role in supporting new ideas, innovations, and applied research in the economic sector to contribute to the development of Vietnam’s innovative economy. This is the only incubator affiliated with a university in Vietnam recognized as one of the top ten organizations supporting innovative startups in Southeast Asia (AsiaStar 10×10 Launchpad).
In addition to developing the startup ecosystem in Ho Chi Minh City, the UII Innovation Startup Incubator also successfully develops and transfers the incubator model in the Mekong Delta (Mekong Incubator) with the goal of promoting and supporting the local startup ecosystem effectively, while also inspiring and nurturing the entrepreneurial spirit among students at UEH Vinh Long Branch, helping startups have an environment to hone their skills and apply the knowledge learned in the classroom to practice.
In 2023, a total of 27 innovative startup projects were incubated at UEH, with 1.15 billion VND successfully raised by startups.
The UII Incubation Program is a high-quality incubation program, completely free of charge, organized by UEH from September 20 to November 17, 2023, for early-stage startups in the process of product development and market validation, aimed at helping participants achieve important goals during the idea development and market testing phases.
The Sandbox incubation program lasts for 10 weeks (from March 18 to May 30, 2023) and is designed for students to accelerate and transform their breakthrough ideas into viable businesses, with 3 main activities to equip students with the necessary skills and gradually realize their ideas.
The Post Incubation Program lasts for 6 months, does not require equity capital, and is aimed at early-stage startups to self-initiate. It supports shared workspace fees for startups through an Incubation Agreement, including: support for coworking space; training and sharing programs to enhance the skills and capabilities of project founders; project advisory programs; networking activities, introducing partners, and assisting startups in accessing the market. For each specific task, both parties will sign a suitable document for implementation, market confirmation, and investment assurance, with 5 main activities including Expert Sessions, Growth Sessions as mandatory bi-weekly meetings, Office Hours, Essential Training Programs, and Shared Services.
The Investment Day – DemoDay 2023 is an annual event organized by UII and UEH. In 2023, the program provided UII startups with the opportunity to meet potential investors and partners, showcasing their products, services, and business models to seek investment and collaboration opportunities.
The Showcase Event – UII Showcaseday provides an opportunity for startups to present their business ideas to a group of experts, investors, partners, and potential customers. The program took place on June 10th with the two best startup projects, Hào Sảng Wine and ROAD from Sandbox Cohort 1/23, marking the success of UII’s Sandbox incubation program.
In addition to the activities of the UII Institute, there is the Sustainable Entrepreneurship for Economic Development (SEED) project under the cooperation between UEH and the University of Applied Sciences and Arts Northwestern Switzerland aimed at promoting sustainable economic development. The projects provide opportunities for students from various countries to exchange ideas, learn, and have the chance to develop and implement projects, research programs, and teaching based on real-world contexts with the collaboration of participating organizations to train responsible students with the capacity for international integration. From July 19, 2023, to July 29, 2023, a delegation of faculty and students from FHNW came to collaborate and implement the Sustainable Entrepreneurship for Economic Development – SEED project with UEH students in Lam Dong. Here, faculty and students had the opportunity to experience, explore, and study many aspects of high-tech agricultural development and its challenges for future growth.
In addition, UEH also organizes seminars to spread knowledge about entrepreneurship, sustainable businesses, and agricultural tourism to promote and support businesses in their development process. From June 29, 2023, to June 30, 2023, UEH successfully held the National Scientific Conference and the exhibition “Application of Technology in Developing Sustainable Tourism Supply Chains” at the branch of the University of Economics Ho Chi Minh City in Vinh Long province. With the goal of providing an open discussion forum for scholars, researchers, experts, and managers, contributing meaningful insights to the sustainable tourism development of the Mekong Delta in general and Vinh Long province in particular, the conference was successful with sightseeing programs and 4 parallel discussion tours, receiving many opinions from experts and connecting technology in promoting sustainable tourism development.
As a pioneer in enhancing practical application capabilities, sparking the creative potential within each individual, and developing outstanding economists and managers for society, UEH has been continually striving to research applications, develop, and test innovative solutions for the economy, the community, and the environment.
