UEH is strongly committed to the Sustainable Development Goals, particularly the efficient use and conservation of water resources. The University implements water-related activities across three levels: external to campus (community support, water environment improvement), within campus (changing water usage behavior of students – lecturers – staff) and broad community outreach. These programs are organized as campaigns, youth projects, green challenges, educational applications and communication initiatives, aiming to create conscious water usage habits and promote water conservation.

Water Conservation and Support Programs External to Campus

UEH has launched two clean-up events for canals and installed floating barriers in canals in Ho Chi Minh City to improve the natural water flow system, reduce waste entering the waterways, thereby conserving water resources and enhancing natural drainage and filtration capacity.Picture124

Furthermore, the youth project “Residential Water Pipeline Construction” supports communities by providing residents with access to clean water, which is a form of support for the external water supply system. These programs clearly demonstrate UEH’s off-campus participation in supporting water conservation and improvement for the community.Picture127

The University of Economics Ho Chi Minh City (UEH) introduced the research project “Gender-sensitizing for Design and Operation of Water-Energy-Climate Change Infrastructures in Soc Trang Province, Mekong Delta, Vietnam – GS4Infra”

Within the framework of this project, UEH collaborated with local authorities and multidisciplinary experts to design and operate climate-adaptive irrigation systems such as dikes, canals, and salinity control sluices. UEH supported the research team in data collection, field surveys, and the development of practical and policy recommendations.

Through these activities, UEH contributed to the sustainable management and conservation of water resources, helping protect freshwater sources from saltwater intrusion and ensuring equitable access to water for local communities, particularly for groups vulnerable to climate change impacts.

This project reflected UEH’s commitment to integrating water conservation, climate adaptation, and community resilience into both research and real-world implementation.

Promoting Conscious Water Usage within Campus

UEH has implemented various internal activities to establish conscious water usage habits, such as forming the “Green Volunteer” team to remind students on campus to use water rationally in daily life, turn off taps after use, and use personal reusable bottles instead of single-use plastic cups.Picture128

In addition, the “21 Days Green Living Challenge” campaign included water conservation and protection activities in students’ daily lives, attracting over 1,000 students. These activities directly target changing water usage behavior within the UEH campus and raising water-saving awareness.Picture129

Promoting Conscious Water Usage in the Community

UEH’s activities are not limited to the campus but are open for community participation and access, contributing to the spread of water conservation awareness throughout society. Every program targets the community in various forms, from the youth project “Residential Water Pipeline Construction” supporting disadvantaged people’s access to clean water, to the canal clean-up campaign and floating barrier installation that helps purify urban waterways and restore natural ecosystems.

Concurrently, UEH also implements open educational and communication platforms such as the “UEH Green Campus Game” – a game simulation app that helps the public and students practice green living skills, water saving, and waste management; or the Green Hackathon competition which encourages students to propose creative solutions for water and environmental protection for the community.Picture130

Particularly, the “Green Monday” Series is maintained regularly as a green educational communication publication by UEH, disseminating awareness about forests, water, climate, and sustainable technology through articles, infographics, and thematic news publicly posted on the UEH fanpage weekly and the UEH Green Campus website monthly. The program not only updates the latest information on environment and sustainable development but also inspires a change in green mindset and behavior for students and the community in responsible water and natural resource usage.Picture132

[GREEN MONDAY SERIES] Zero Waste Travel Challenge: A journey to reduce disposable waste

Thanks to the simultaneous, public, and multi-layered implementation at all three levels – off-campus, on-campus, and within the wider community – UEH has built a robust network of green action. In 2024, over 1,000 students, 200 volunteers, and 500 urban residents directly benefited from UEH’s water conservation programs. All these programs fall under the framework of the UEH Green Campus Scheme 2021 – 2030, aiming for the conservation and sustainable use of water resources—a direct contribution to SDG 6.

UEH’s water programs do not stop at supporting and improving water infrastructure; they also change behavior, raise awareness, and promote practical application in daily life. Through open, multi-platform, and in-depth initiatives, UEH has spread the spirit of “every individual is a clean water ambassador”—where students, lecturers, and the community join hands to save water, protect natural water sources, and contribute to building a green, smart, and sustainable university, aspiring to be a responsible and livable academic city model.
