The University of Economics Ho Chi Minh City (UEH) currently operates a centralized wastewater treatment system with a design capacity of 550 m³/day, complying with the national technical standard QCVN 14:2008/BTNMT – Column B for domestic wastewater.

Wastewater generated from academic, teaching, and operational activities across the campus is collected through a screen and equalization system, then routed to biological treatment tanks (Anoxic – MBR – Aerotank) to remove organic compounds, nitrogen, and phosphorus. Subsequently, the water is channeled through a sedimentation tank and a chemical disinfection tank, ensuring it meets environmental standards before being transferred to the treated water storage tank.

The entire process is carried out in a closed loop, allowing UEH to recover and reuse a portion of the treated water for appropriate purposes such as campus irrigation and cleaning. To ensure the quality of the treated effluent, the university collects approximately 10 liters of treated water every quarter and sends it to independent certification bodies, such as the Vietnam Academy of Science and Technology, Viet Environment and Labor Safety Co., Ltd., and Duong Quynh Environment Co., Ltd., for analysis of quality parameters including TSS, BOD₅, Amoni and Coliform. This is used to monitor the stability and performance of the system. The inspection results are stored and serve as the basis for UEH to assess the annual water reuse rate, ensuring water management and usage are safe, economical, and sustainable.
