The University of Economics Ho Chi Minh City (UEH) is consistently committed to promoting gender equality and building a sustainable, inclusive working and learning environment. Specifically, the paternity leave policy is maintained and applied to share family responsibilities and support women during pregnancy and post-childbirth.
According to the Social Insurance Law and UEH’s human resources policy on maternity, male officials and employees at UEH are entitled to paternity leave ranging from 5 to 17 working days depending on the specific case (vaginal birth, C-section, twins, triplets, etc.). This policy ensures that men can directly support their wives and children during the critical period after birth, helping women to rest, recover their health, and promptly return to study, research, and work. Specifically:
– 05 working days off: When the wife has a vaginal birth (single child).
– 07 working days off: When the wife gives birth via surgery (C-section) or gives birth when the gestational age is under 32 weeks.
– 10 working days off: When the wife gives birth to twins.
– 14 working days off: When the wife gives birth to twins or more via surgery.
– In case the wife gives birth to triplets or more: For each additional child (from the third child onwards), the husband is entitled to an additional 03 working days off. For example: If the wife gives birth to triplets via surgery, the husband is entitled to 14 + 3 = 17 days off.
The paternity leave period is counted within the first 30 days after the child’s birth is calculated within the first 30 days from the date of the wife’s childbirth.
The implementation of this policy has been widely communicated by UEH to all officials and employees, with administrative procedures supported to ensure their rights.

UEH’s leave request system interface in case male officials and employees take leave when their wives give birth
In the 2023 – 2024 academic year, there was one case of a male utilizing the paternity leave policy, contributing positively to work-life balance. Specifically, this policy enables men to take legitimate leave and share family care responsibilities; consequently, women gain more time for recovery and can return to work/study more smoothly.
Thereby, the paternity leave policy not only affirms UEH’s commitment to the Sustainable Development Goal (SDG 5 – Gender Equality), but also contributes to enhancing the participation and development of women in academia and their careers.
