5.6.7. Track women’s graduation rate

Measurement and monitoring of student graduation capability: University of Economics Ho Chi Minh City (UEH) maintains a gender-disaggregated academic performance monitoring system to easily identify any disparities. The system tracks indicators such as GPA, on-time credit completion, program leave of absence, completion of Scientific Research, scholarship awards, and on-time graduation. If risk  indicators are detected (e.g., declining GPA, delayed progress), the system schedules advisor meetings and triggers early support, ensuring students receive timely and equal assistance. Through statistical data and analysis, UEH records a high rate of female students meeting graduation standards, demonstrating the effectiveness of support and encouragement activities for women.

Methods for promoting and supporting female students’ graduation:

+ UEH has issued unified, transparent, and clear Regulations on the organization of the “Internship and Graduation” module, with support from instructors and enterprises. Each student is assigned a supervising instructor, receives a task outline, and has periodic checkpoints to ensure progress and quality. Concurrently, UEH signs MOUs with partner enterprises, provides a list of suitable internship positions by major, and supports students in completing the Business Semester. All stages are gender neutral: female students have equal access to opportunities, are assigned suitable mentors, receive workplace safety guidance, and have access to support channels when needed, ensuring an effective and fair internship experience. + UEH implements study support scholarships, academic encouragement scholarships, and corporate scholarships throughout all semesters of the year, accompanied by packages for reducing, waiving, or extending tuition fees per semester (e.g., when natural disasters occur, students in affected areas are considered for fee reductions and extensions). The goal is to prevent students, especially disadvantaged female students, from having to discontinue their studies or take a leave of absence for economic reasons. + Enterprise visits – Learning from practice. UEH organizes enterprise tours for students to observe technological/operational processes, learn about workplace culture and environment, and network with mentors and recruiters. This helps with career orientation, internship connections, the Corporate Semester, thesis topics, and professional skills training (workplace behavior, labor safety). During the 2023-2024 period, UEH implemented a system for statistical analysis of graduation data by gender. The results showed that the on-time graduation rate for female students was consistently high, equivalent to or surpassing that of their male counterparts. The gender disparity gap was significantly narrowed, from 1% down to 0.5% in 2024. This improvement reflects the effectiveness of comprehensive support measures: summer semesters, academic advising, scholarship and tuition fee waiver policies, corporate semesters, and job fairs. Thereby, UEH female students not only complete their academic programs on time but also possess a solid foundation to enter the labor market, affirming UEH’s positive impact in advancing gender equality, women’s empowerment, and equal opportunities in higher education and employment.
