1. Policy Description
The University of Economics Ho Chi Minh City (UEH) has established a policy to reduce the impact of alien species within its campus ecosystem.
This policy is not issued as a new pilot clause, but rather implemented through the enhancement and concretization of existing provisions under the UEH Green University Regulation (Decision No. 2059/QĐ-ĐHKT-CSVC).
2. Internal Commitment and Supporting Policies (Strengthening the Implementation of Regulation 2059)
UEH is committed to strengthening the implementation of the following provisions with the aim of minimizing the impact of alien species:
+ Reinforcing Article 5, Clause 6. During implementation, the Facilities Management Department is directed to prioritize the conservation and development of native plant species, while controlling the spread of invasive alien species within the campus.
+ Reinforcing Article 10, Clauses 1 and 2 These provisions are applied to prioritize green suppliers and landscape contractors who commit to using native species and minimize the introduction of new alien species into the campus environment.
3. Evidence of Implementation – UEH Green Campus Initiative: Reducing Single-Use Plastics and Waste Separation
As part of its long-term sustainability commitment, the University of Economics Ho Chi Minh City (UEH) has implemented the UEH Green Campus Program, focusing on reducing the impact of foreign materials, particularly non-biodegradable plastics, on the campus ecosystem.
Through this program, UEH has adopted a series of concrete measures, including on-campus waste separation at source, collection of recyclable materials, operation of the I Ve Chai Machine, and integration of AI-based waste sorting applications. Furthermore, the “No Single-Use Plastics” campaign was launched to eliminate disposable plastics across UEH’s facilities and encourage the use of sustainable alternatives in all learning, research, and event activities.
UEH students have actively participated by engaging in “sell recyclables” initiatives through the I Ve Chai Machine and designing creative campaign banners such as “No Single-Use Plastics”, made from reused cardboard. These collective actions not only contribute to reducing harmful external waste but also cultivate environmental awareness among students, faculty, and staff.
