1. Policy Description
The University of Economics Ho Chi Minh City (UEH) has established strategic guidelines to ensure the integration of local biodiversity into all planning and development processes.
This policy guarantees that all new infrastructure projects at UEH must undergo environmental impact assessment and prioritize design solutions that harmonize with local biodiversity.
2. Internal Commitment and Supporting Policies (Pilot Addition to Regulation No. 2059)
To institutionalize and ensure effective implementation, UEH has piloted additional clauses into the UEH Green University Regulation (Decision No. 2059/QĐ-ĐHKT-CSVC) as follows:
+ Addition of Clause 18, Article 6:
“UEH shall pilot and instruct relevant departments (such as the Facilities Management Department) to integrate local biodiversity elements into all planning and development processes particularly when planning the construction of new buildings.”
+ Addition of Clause 16, Article 7:
“Based on the pilot directive in Clause 18, Article 6 of this Regulation, assigned departments are responsible for:
– Ensuring that all planning, design, and development procedures for new facilities include an evaluation and consideration of impacts on local biodiversity, prioritizing green design solutions, preservation of existing vegetation, and protection of native species (if applicable).
– Documenting evidence of this integration (e.g., within design and planning documents) and reporting to the UEH Green Campus Project Management Board.”
As part of its internal policy and landscape design initiative, the University of Economics Ho Chi Minh City (UEH) has implemented a comprehensive green space planning program across its campuses. This initiative focuses on preserving native plant species, reducing surface concretization, and expanding the proportion of green coverage in the campus landscape. Such efforts not only improve the environmental quality and aesthetics of the learning environment but also contribute to maintaining local biodiversity during the process of infrastructure development.
Illustrative examples can be seen in the green landscape of UEH Campus B and the internal courtyards of UEH Campus A, where native trees and ecological design principles are applied to promote harmony between urban structures and natural systems.
