1. Policy description
University of Economics Ho Chi Minh City (UEH) introduced a pilot policy in 2024 to ensure the sustainable sourcing of food derived from aquatic ecosystems within the university campus.
This policy was institutionalized through the pilot inclusion of new provisions in the “Regulations Regarding Green Campus Practice” (Decision No. 2059/QD-DHKT-CSVC).
2. Core content of the policy
In 2024, the Sustainable UEH University Project Board implemented a pilot expansion of Article 16 in the “Regulations Regarding Green Campus Practice at all UEH-affiliated Campuses of the University of Economics Ho Chi Minh City (UEH) and UEH Vinh Long Campus” with the following key provisions:
+ Addition of Clause 4: Priority shall be given in the selection process for food service providers who commit to purchasing aquatic and marine products sourced from responsible fishing or aquaculture practices with sustainable certification.
+ Addition of Clause 5: Pilot implementation, and eventual requirement, for cleaning service providers to use biologically based, environmentally friendly detergents to minimize the negative impact of wastewater on river and marine ecosystems.
UEH also maintains a procurement policy that prioritizes organic and locally produced sources. According to the 2024 internal procurement records, a significant proportion of the University’s ingredient expenditure was allocated to local suppliers, most of which provide organically cultivated products originating from aquatic ecosystems that are sustainably harvested and safely managed. Long-term contracts with organic vegetable and clean seafood suppliers help stabilize food sources, improve meal quality, and reduce emissions from long-distance transportation.

All UEH canteens offer environmentally friendly food options, sourced from organic production, sustainable harvesting, and safe agricultural systems
The canteen menu features eco-friendly, safe, and hygienic dishes, contributing to the University’s commitment to sustainable land use and biodiversity conservation.
