In the context of increasingly complex climate change, establishing early warning systems, risk monitoring, and enhancing response capacity at all levels of government has become a critical task. With its pioneering mission in sustainable education, research, and development, the University of Economics Ho Chi Minh City (UEH) has continuously partnered with government agencies, international organizations, and local authorities to provide information, policy advice, and science- and innovation-based decision support.

Through its interdisciplinary and international collaboration network, UEH not only contributes knowledge to climate risk management strategies but also promotes the transfer of models, research, and technology to serve the community. The following key activities exemplify this commitment—where academic knowledge is closely linked with social responsibility and practical action alongside local authorities.

The meeting between UEH and the French Development Agency (AFD) marked an important step in sharing a vision for green transition and urban climate risk governance. Both parties discussed specific action strategies to support the government and local authorities in establishing early warning systems, climate risk monitoring, and expanding collaboration in climate research and finance.

During the 12th World Urban Forum in Cairo, UEH presented the UEH Green Campus and Living Lab model—serving as a practical “urban laboratory” for disaster-resilient planning and climate risk management. Through this, UEH contributed academic evidence to the Vietnamese government and international partners for building climate-adaptive cities, post-disaster reconstruction, and strengthening early warning systems.

The series of collaborative activities between UEH and the Southeast Asia Environmental Economics Program (EEPSEA) goes beyond raising environmental awareness; it also aims to develop disaster response plans and ecological restoration strategies in areas severely affected by climate change. Through research and policy advisory activities, both parties have supported local authorities in establishing evidence-based, community-engaged climate risk management models, thereby enhancing sustainable adaptive capacity in vulnerable regions.

Through research projects and field activities, UEH has proposed policies, advised on sustainable development strategies, and supported authorities in climate adaptation efforts. The studies not only focus on green economy models but also address risk monitoring, surveillance, and the development of sustainable infrastructure for vulnerable communities.

With the goal of enhancing governance and sustainable investment capacity, the UEH Institute of Sustainable Finance (SFI) has implemented multiple initiatives aimed at advising the government and public organizations on green finance policies. The Institute also provides a scientific basis to support the development of financial strategies for climate change adaptation and disaster risk management.

Efforts in Research Activities Toward Sustainable Development

UEH Futures’ podcast program expands perspectives on climate-adaptive tourism development, helping local authorities and businesses access practical solutions for risk management, livelihood diversification, and green economic recovery in riverine regions. This flexible knowledge dissemination method connects academic insights with policy communities.

At the UEH Vinh Long Campus, the RTD 2024 workshop on “For a More Sustainable Mekong Delta” brought together experts, government officials, and researchers to discuss technological solutions and urban design for climate adaptation. The event not only provided a multi-stakeholder dialogue platform but also contributed to building a database for climate risk monitoring in the Mekong Delta, supporting local authorities’ decision-making processes.

From strategic collaborations to applied research initiatives, UEH has been affirming its role as a knowledge hub supporting the government and local authorities in climate risk management and adaptation. These contributions not only strengthen the national climate early warning and monitoring systems but also promote interdisciplinary collaboration, transforming academic knowledge into practical action for a sustainable and climate-resilient Vietnam.
