In 2025, the University of Economics Ho Chi Minh City (UEH) continued to fulfil its role as a multidisciplinary and sustainable university by delivering health outreach programmes and projects in the local community to improve and promote physical health, mental health and well-being. With the participation of its academic units, the UEH Youth Union and Student Association, and its network of student volunteers, UEH carried out practical activities in Ho Chi Minh City, Vinh Long and other localities, focusing on three beneficiary groups: local communities, disadvantaged people and migrant communities.

  • Local communities: UEH carried out activities directly linked to health care, disease prevention and better quality of life. Notably, the 2025 Economics Student Volunteer Campaign in Vinh Long installed a drinking water purifier at Chanh An A Primary School and improved play spaces for children, while UEH maintained its voluntary blood donation programme, collecting 237 units of blood at the 52nd Voluntary Blood Donation Festival for emergency care and treatment. The Vinh Long Half Marathon 2025 promoted physical exercise among more than 2,100 runners; the “Vui hội trăng rằm” (Full Moon Festival) programme presented Mid-Autumn gifts to 532 children in Nhon Phu Commune (Vinh Long); and applied research was conducted with secondary school students, parents, older people and people with disabilities in Ho Chi Minh City on traffic safety and walkability.
  • Disadvantaged people: UEH focused on activities that improve nutrition, hygiene and living conditions for children, older people and families facing hardship or affected by natural disasters. The 2025 “Tết Gratitude – Spring Volunteering” programme included handwashing and disease prevention guidance for 70 children at the SOS Children’s Village; the “Bếp Trẻ – Lửa Xanh” (Young Kitchen – Green Flame) programme provided more than 60 meals for children and older people at the Vinh Long Provincial Social Work Center; families of people with meritorious services to the nation, disadvantaged pupils and children in shelters and open houses were supported during Tết; residents of flood-affected areas in Central Vietnam and the Central Highlands received direct support; and parents of children receiving treatment at Children’s Hospital 2 were provided with meals. In addition to direct support, the UEH Health and Agricultural Policy Research Institute (HAPRI) implemented a Vietnam–Australia cooperation project to improve nutrition for children in disadvantaged rural areas, linking research with community awareness-raising and nutrition policy.
  • Migrant communities: Students in the joint programmes of UEH.ISB continued the “Nét Chữ Trao Em” (Letters for Little Ones) project with two free classes, Hoa Hao and Rach Ong, in Ho Chi Minh City (215 sessions in 2025 with around 80–90 children). The project provides a safe space for activities, life skills development and social inclusion for disadvantaged children, including children of migrant families facing barriers related to household registration or birth certificates.

2025 Highlights and What Is New Compared with 2024

UEH’s health outreach programmes in 2025 combined direct health care, disease prevention education, nutrition support and the promotion of social well-being. Rather than focusing only on short-term volunteer programmes, UEH continued long-running activities such as voluntary blood donation, the Spring Volunteer Campaign, the Economics Student Volunteer Campaign and the “Nét Chữ Trao Em” project, while also implementing activities tailored to the practical needs of each locality and beneficiary group.

Compared with 2024, the 2025 programmes were more diverse in their approaches, ranging from improving drinking water and environmental sanitation to nutrition support, physical exercise, applied research and support for social inclusion. Combining the University’s expertise with its student volunteer network and local organizations has broadened the reach of its community service, particularly for children, older people and groups facing difficulties in accessing essential living conditions across different localities.

Through these programmes, UEH continues to fulfil its role as a community-engaged university, bringing knowledge, resources and volunteering to bear on real health and well-being needs. This provides a foundation for UEH to sustain and strengthen its health outreach programmes, contributing to SDG 3 – Good Health and Well-being.
