Diverse scholarships and student support programs are implemented at UEH

In order to assist and provide students from disadvantaged backgrounds with opportunities to continue pursuing their educational dreams, the University of Economics Ho Chi Minh City has implemented financial support policies for students, along with fundraising programs from businesses and alumni of UEH, and encourages students to apply for scholarships beyond those offered by UEH.

Comprehensive financial support policies for students at UEH

Aiming at three sustainable development goals: Creating opportunities for learners from different backgrounds (SDG1), building equitable access to education, and motivating students to enhance their achievements (SDG4), as well as connecting the community for education (SDG17), the University of Economics Ho Chi Minh City (UEH) has implemented many financial support policies for students in difficult circumstances. In 2023, UEH supported more than 10 billion VND for students in need of financial assistance.

Many financial support policies for students

Tuition fees and living expenses are always a concern for parents and students. The three-and-a-half-year study journey will be even more challenging without timely support from the school. Understanding that concern and facilitating opportunities for students to study over the past years, UEH has developed various financial policies for students, including:

  • Study Support Scholarships
  • Enterprise Sponsorship Scholarships – Dream Wings Program
  • Study credits and loan support services
  • Other forms of assistance

Through these support policies, UEH aims to ensure that 80% of students from difficult circumstances graduate and secure stable employment, bringing benefits to the community and society.

Study Support Scholarship – A Companion for Struggling Students

The extension arm that helps UEH reach out and support students who are in difficult circumstances but are still striving to study. Scholarships are available for undergraduate students with simple participation conditions: academic performance must be average or higher, discipline score must be good or higher, no disciplinary actions worse than a reprimand in the semester when the scholarship is considered, and still within the scholarship allocation criteria. Scholarships are awarded in 02 main semesters of the year. In 2023, the Student Care and Support Department (DSA) opened 02 application rounds in the first and last semesters of 2023 with up to 1097 scholarships totaling nearly 7.5 billion VND.

Connecting the community – Wings to Dream Scholarship

Belonging to the category of Talent Cultivation, the “Wings to Dreams” Scholarship will provide opportunities for students from difficult backgrounds to complete their academic journey. With the support of individuals, organizations, and partner businesses of UEH, in 2023, UEH has granted and awarded 2.5 billion VND in scholarships – 238 awards to eligible students. With a variety of scholarship values from different businesses covering tuition fees to living expenses, it is believed that this will be the best source of encouragement and support for students.

Diverse forms of support for student loans

In addition to scholarship policies, UEH implements the Student Loan Program and provides loan confirmation documents for students in difficult circumstances.

With the goal of mobilizing external resources to participate in student loans, aiming to allow learners to borrow at the lowest interest rates, with simple procedures, a variety of banking products, and minimizing risks for partner banks. The “Student Loan Program at UEH” in 2023 successfully approved 44 loan applications with a total value of 636,542,220 VND in the form of tuition fee loans.

Tuition Fee Loan Program: The maximum loan term is 6 months; the school will assist in paying interest at the lowest interest rate applied by participating banks to support students.

Tuition Fee Installment Program through Credit Cards from Banks: Supports tuition fee installments with 0% interest through the issuance of credit cards, and the school subsidizes the installment conversion fees for participating banks.

At the same time, UEH also provided 2,295 loan confirmation documents for students who registered through the electronic transaction portal to borrow funds from the Social Policy Bank.

Other support services for students in difficult circumstances

With a comprehensive financial support policy, UEH hopes this will be a step forward for students to complete their studies well and become global citizens.

Fundraising programs from corporate partners and UEH alumni

In order to continue fulfilling social responsibilities and nurturing knowledge for future generations, the UEH GOLF TOURNAMENT – SWING FOR FUTURE 2023 was officially organized by the UEH Alumni Golf Club on April 6th. Over 1.2 billion VND has been contributed to the Talent Nurturing Scholarship Fund for hardworking students in difficult circumstances at UEH, helping them to have opportunities to develop their knowledge and abilities and contribute to the future development of society.

The “Fundraising Football Tournament for Challenging Students 2023” not only creates a healthy playground that helps enhance the health of staff, faculty, and lecturers of UEH and partner businesses but also opens up opportunities for exchange, collaboration, and community bonding to jointly develop sustainably, nurturing the future generations of knowledge, thereby contributing to society.

The football tournament was successfully organized with the participation of 4 competing teams.

Encouraging UEH students from difficult backgrounds to apply for and receive the VSDP scholarship (VietHope Student Development Program).

On January 8, 2023, the University of Economics Ho Chi Minh City (UEH) and VietHope Organization (VietHope Inc.) held a ceremony to award the VSDP scholarship to 95 students in difficult circumstances, among which UEH was very honored to have 11 students from Class 48 and 9 students from Class 47 eligible to receive the scholarship. The scholarship fund serves as a foundation to support students on their academic journey while nurturing the seeds that will benefit the future.

Students with difficult circumstances from universities in the southern region receive VSDP scholarships.

In addition to scholarship policies, student loans, and fundraising activities, UEH also supports dormitory accommodations for students in difficult situations, helping them find housing at a low cost while ensuring safety and convenience, as well as facilitating peer interactions and study exchanges in the dormitory. In 2023, UEH supported 56 students in difficult circumstances to stay in the communal dormitory. Additionally, UEH offers a discount of 300,000 VND/student/month for students belonging to policy beneficiaries.

Furthermore, UEH subsidizes the UEH Shuttle bus service at a low price of only 5,000 VND/student/ride. There have been 53,526 registrations for the UEH Shuttle bus service in 2023.

Notably, in an effort to support students, especially those in difficult circumstances, UEH successfully organized a series of activities to enhance soft skills and improve English proficiency. This included 25 soft skills classes and 12 free language seminars, with the program certifying over 1,000 students, creating opportunities for them to develop themselves and enhance their chances of studying and working in the future.

The scholarship funds and student support programs will serve as motivation to help disadvantaged students take confident steps on their educational journey at UEH, while also affirming the sustainable multi-disciplinary university model that UEH is striving for.
