Comprehensive financial support policies for students at UEH
Aiming at three sustainable development goals: creating opportunities for learners from different backgrounds (SDG1), establishing equitable access to education, and motivating students to improve their academic performance (SDG4), as well as connecting the community for education (SDG17), the University of Economics Ho Chi Minh City (UEH) has implemented numerous financial support policies for students in difficult circumstances. In 2023, UEH supported over 10 billion VND for students in need of financial assistance, helping to ensure the goal of 80% of students from disadvantaged backgrounds graduate and secure stable employment, bringing benefits to the community and society.
Many financial support policies for students
Tuition fees and living expenses are always a concern for parents and students. The three-and-a-half years of study will be even more challenging without timely support from the school. Understanding this worry and creating favorable conditions for students to have the opportunity to study in recent years, UEH has developed various financial policies for students, including:
– Learning Support Scholarships
– Business Sponsorship Scholarships – The Dream Wing Program
– Learning Credits and loan support services
– Other forms of assistance
Through these support policies, UEH aims to ensure that 80% of students from disadvantaged backgrounds graduate and secure stable employment, bringing benefits to the community and society.
Learning Support Scholarships – A companion for disadvantaged students
The extended arm that helps UEH reach out and support students from difficult backgrounds who are still striving to study. The scholarship is available for undergraduate students with simple participation conditions: Academic results must be from Average to Good or higher, conduct results must be Good or higher, no disciplinary action from reprimand level during the semester of scholarship consideration, and still within the scholarship allocation quota. The scholarship is awarded in two main semesters of the year. In 2023, the Department of Student Affairs (DSA) opened two registration rounds for the first and last semesters of 2023, offering up to 1097 scholarships with a total value of nearly 7.5 billion VND.
Connecting the community – Wings to Dreams Scholarship
Under the Talent Incubation category, the “Wings to Dreams” scholarship will provide opportunities for students from difficult backgrounds to complete their educational journey. With the support of individuals, organizations, and partner businesses of UEH, in 2023, UEH has awarded and granted 2.5 billion VND in scholarships – 238 scholarships to eligible students. With diverse scholarship values from businesses covering tuition fees to living expenses, it is believed that this will be the best source of encouragement and support for students.
Diverse forms of support for students to borrow funds
In addition to scholarship policies, UEH implements the Student Credit Program and provides loan confirmation certificates for students in difficult circumstances.
With the aim of mobilizing external resources to participate in student credit activities, in order to create favorable conditions for learners to borrow at the lowest interest rates, with simple procedures, diverse banking products, and minimize risks for partner banks. The “UEH Learning Credits Program” in 2023 successfully approved 44 loan applications with a value of 636,542,220 VND in the form of tuition loans.
Tuition Loan Program: The maximum loan term is 6 months; the school will support interest payments at the lowest interest rates applied at participating banks to assist students.
Tuition Installment Payment Program via Credit Card from the Bank: Supports tuition installment payments at 0% interest through credit card issuance, and the school assists with the installment conversion fees for banks participating in the program.
Additionally, UEH has also supported the issuance of 2,295 loan certificates for students registering through the electronic transaction portal who wish to borrow from the social policy bank.
Other support services for students in difficult circumstances
In addition to scholarship policies and student loans, UEH also supports dormitory accommodation for students from underprivileged backgrounds, helping them secure a location with affordable costs while ensuring safety and convenience. Additionally, it facilitates easier interaction and collaboration among peers living in the dormitory. In 2023, UEH assisted 56 students facing difficulties in finding a place in the communal dormitory. At the same time, UEH has waived/reduced 300,000 VND/student/month for those students who fall under the policy beneficiaries.
Moreover, UEH subsidizes the UEH Shuttle Bus service, with tickets priced at only 5,000 VND/student/ride. There have been 53,526 registrations to use the UEH Shuttle Bus service in 2023.
With a comprehensive financial support policy, UEH hopes this will be a stepping stone for students to successfully complete their studies and become global citizens.
