The visit of the NEU delegation to UEH – A journey of 48 years of attachment, construction, and development

From December 22 – 24, 2023, the delegation of officials and lecturers of the National Economics University (NEU) visited and worked with the University of Economics Ho Chi Minh City (UEH). More than a visit, this was also a testament to the traditional relationship that UEH and NEU have built and developed together over the past 48 years.

UEH and NEU have a close relationship throughout their development journey, especially in recent times, the cooperation between the two universities has become more comprehensive and has gone deeper into the professional activities of the two units. Every year, UEH and NEU have specific coordinated activities, contributing to completing important tasks for the two units to develop sustainably together. Therefore, the visit from December 22 to 24 of the NEU delegation of 31 members, led by Assoc.Prof.Dr. Bui Duc Tho – Secretary of the Party Committee, Chairman of the University Council – was a meaningful traditional activity.

Accordingly, the NEU delegation included Associate Professor, Dr. Bui Duc Tho – Party Committee Secretary, Chairman of the University Council; Professor, Dr. Pham Hong Chuong – Rector; Associate Professor, Dr. Bui Huy Nhuong – Vice Rector; Associate Professor, Dr. Nguyen Thanh Hieu – Vice Rector; Professor, Dr. Hoang Van Cuong – Former Vice Rector, lecturers, and leaders of NEU departments, faculties, and institutes.

Welcoming and working with NEU, on behalf of UEH, there was the presence of Professor, Dr. Nguyen Dong Phong – Chairman of the University Council; Professor, Dr. Su Dinh Thanh – University Director; Professor, Dr. Nguyen Khac Quoc Bao – Deputy Director of the University; Dr. Dinh Cong Khai – Deputy Director of the University; Associate Professor, Dr. Phan Thi Bich Nguyet – Chairwoman of the Strategic and Policy Advisory Council; Dr. Nguyen Thien Duy – Chairman of the Union; Associate Professor, Dr. Bui Thanh Trang – Vice Head of UEH College of Business; Associate Professor, Dr. Pham Khanh Nam – Vice Head of UEH College of Economics, Law and Government; Dr. Thai Kim Phung – Vice Head of UEH College of Technology and Design; with lecturers and leaders of units, departments, faculties, and institutes affiliated to UEH.

To begin the visit, the two sides attended the session “Discussion on experiences in University administration” whose contents related to university administration and digital transformation activities supporting learners.

Speaking at the opening of the program, Prof.Dr. Nguyen Dong Phong – Party Secretary, Chairman of the Council of University of Economics Ho Chi Minh City – remarked: “University of Economics Ho Chi Minh City and National Economics University are two prestigious and quality research institutions of the country. In the early stages of establishment, UEH received enthusiastic support from NEU. Since then, the two schools have continued to stick together and support each other in the development process. Continuing this good tradition, the relationship between UEH and NEU will certainly become even closer in the future. In particular, the two schools will share management experience to promote activities such as international cooperation, student exchange, lecturer exchange, etc. On behalf of the school leadership, I thank the NEU delegation. I hope the two sides will work together to promote this good relationship further.”

Touched by UEH’s warm welcome, Associate Professor Dr. Bui Duc Tho – Secretary of the Party Committee, Chairman of the NEU Council sincerely thanked UEH faculty and affirmed that NEU always cherished the cooperative relationship, the long-lasting and solid brotherhood of NEU – UEH. In particular, following UEH’s successful transformation, NEU was also in the process of preparing for this development step. Surely in the future, the two sides would achieve good results together, maintain the traditions created over many generations, and contribute to the development of society and the country.

In the spirit of openness and intimacy, UEH and NEU discussed on Experiences in implementing university administration at UEH; National Economics University model for the period 2023 – 2030; Digitizing UEH and NEU libraries; and Activities supporting UEH and NEU learners.

In particular, within the framework of the discussion program, UEH sent NEU a meaningful souvenir, a painting created and made by UEH lecturers and students, entitled “Our Story”. The picture was of a brilliant flower field. Each flower was a story of a long journey to maturity with its own identity. The image in the painting was the iris meaning the power of creation and the sunflower meaning the energy of development. Even though they came from different parts of the country, the flowers always found perfect connection opportunities, creating a vivid and harmonious picture. The beauty of the field was not only the close friendship but also the story of cultural and academic interference,\ where UEHer and NEUer have meaningful learning and experience opportunities.

The visit was an activity organized annually under the cooperation agreement between NEU and UEH in order to develop a good traditional relationship between the two leading schools in the fields of economics, business, management, and law. Besides, within the framework of the program, the two schools also had more exchange activities and visited some scenic spots in Ho Chi Minh City and neighboring localities.

In the journey of togetherness over the past 48 years, University of Economics Ho Chi Minh City and the National Economics University have a close relationship, building, growing, and developing together, becoming two leading institutions in the fields of economics, business, and management in Vietnam. This good traditional relationship has been attempted by many generations of leaders of UEH and NEU to maintain and cultivate practical activities every year. Believe that in the future, the cooperative relationship of University of Economics Ho Chi Minh City and the National Economics University will increasingly develop strongly, contributing to the country’s socio-economy./.
