Regular University Opening Ceremony, Batch 49 – The Next UEH Gen: Smart & Green

On the morning of October 7, 2023, the University Opening Ceremony of Batch 49 officially took place at the University of Economics Ho Chi Minh City (UEH) with the theme “The Next UEH Gen: Smart & Green”. The Opening Ceremony is the “train” that begins the journey of discovering and finding the best versions of more than 7,000 new K49 students – the next Gen Z of UEH!

The Opening Ceremony of Batch 49 – Regular University 2023 is an extremely important event, marking the beginning of an exciting future journey for new UEH students Batch 49 – the special Gen Z code of the times. Besides, this year’s Opening Ceremony is also a highlight in a series of important events to celebrate the 47^th anniversary of UEH’s establishment (October 27, 1976 – October 27, 2023) and in the context that UEH officially becomes a Multidisciplinary and Sustainable University.

With this meaning, the Opening Ceremony of Batch 49 of Regular University with the theme “The Next UEH Gen: Smart & Green” officially took place concurrently at 2 video conferences in Hall A.116 (campus A, 59C Nguyen Dinh Chieu, Ho Chi Minh City) and Hall B1.302, (campus B, 279 Nguyen Tri Phuong, Ho Chi Minh City) at 09:00 on October 7, 2023. At the same time, it was livestreamed online on the platforms: UEH Fanpage, Admissions Consulting Fanpage, and UEH YouTube Channel.

Attending the program, on behalf of UEH, were: Prof. Dr. Nguyen Dong Phong – Party Committee Secretary, Chairman of the Council of University of Economics Ho Chi Minh City; Prof.Dr. Su Dinh Thanh – President of UEH; Dr. Bui Quang Hung – Vice President of UEH; Associate Professor, Dr. Nguyen Khac Quoc Bao – Vice President of UEH; Heads and Deputy Heads of units under the University, along with more than 7,000 UEH students attending in person and online.

In particular, the program had the presence of special guests: Mr. Nguyen Duc Tai – Chairman of the Board of Directors of Mobile World Investment Joint Stock Company; and representatives sponsoring UEH’s technological and artistic activities – Samsung Electronics Vietnam Electronics Company, Mr. Simon Sim – Manager of the Mobile Experience sector.

Begin your journey to becoming a new-generation UEH student with the first lecture

As UEH’s next Gen Z, new K49 students will continue to bring with them the qualities of global students, associated with contemporary trends: mastering Technology and acting for the Environment, with the ultimate goal of contributing solutions for a better life. Among them, the special genetic code of the new era includes SMART and GREEN.

The “Smart” genetic code – the intelligence of the new generation, is not only represented by technology but also the application of technology to life, through the lens of a comprehensive, effective and sustainable perspective for the future. The “Green” gene code is the desire to contribute one’s voice to regional and global forums on the environment and sustainable development.

The first lecture by UEH President – Prof.Dr. Su Dinh Thanh – emphasized the University’s orientations for K49 with enthusiastic sharing to spread the fire of proactively engaging and seizing opportunities for new UEH students. “With the stature of a multi-disciplinary university aiming for sustainable development, UEH implements the goal of “Training global citizens, acting for sustainable development”. Here, students will be given every opportunity to develop comprehensively in their studies, grasp and apply professional knowledge, practice diverse skills and promote the qualities of a generation of global students. UEH believes that this will be the best environment for students to become the best version of themselves according to their own wishes” – Prof.Dr. Su Dinh Thanh – UEH Principal shared.

Besides, he advised new UEH students to “make persistent effort”, “master technology, think globally, act locally” and nurture “gratitude” because this is the “sustainable formula” so that UEHer strives to develop and be steadfast in every journey and every situation in life.

With stories from himself on the journey of studying, starting his career until achieving success, Mr. Nguyen Duc Tai – Chairman of the Board of Directors of Mobile World Investment Joint Stock Company (MWG), UEH Alumni Batch 13, Master of French – Vietnamese program (CFVG – UEH), one of the contemporary entrepreneurs who has brought meaningful sharing to the generation of students in the digital era with the theme “Talents in the digital era: Perspectives from Mobile World Group”.

Honoring exemplary students of academic excellence

At the ceremony, in order to recognize the efforts of new students achieving excellent results in each mode at UEH (HCMC), UEH University commended and awarded certificates of merit, rewards and scholarships with a total value of 40.4 million VND/person for 16 valedictorians; and awarded certificates of merit, rewards and scholarships with a total value of 35.4 million VND/student to 9 salutatorians.

At the same time, UEH will award 700 entrance scholarships with a total value of nearly 7.7 billion VND to new students who achieve excellent results in the entrance exam for Batch 49 – Regular University. Of these, there are 51 excellent scholarships (20.4 million VND/scholarship); 271 full scholarships (13.6 million VND/student); 448 partial scholarships (6.8 million VND/each), especially 03 excellent scholarships, 104 full scholarships and 108 partial scholarships awarded to students in 8 majors of technology and computer.

Continuing the mission of the Giving to UEH Program “Acting for a sustainable future”, UEH awarded 7 Study Support Scholarships worth 13.6 million VND to students in difficult circumstances. This is UEH’s companionship and sharing with learners to help students reduce their financial burden, thereby encouraging their spirit to help them pursue their passion for studying at UEH.

With a multidisciplinary development orientation, UEH continuously expands the field of training programs related to technology, design, innovation and organizes a series of unique interactive activities, combining art and technology. On that journey, UEH has received support from accompanying businesses. On the occasion of the Opening Ceremony of K49 of Regular University, Samsung Electronics Vietnam Company sponsored creative and artistic activities combining UEH’s technology with artifacts and cash items with a total value of 525,380,000 VND, of which the scholarship value is 120,000,000 VND. With this contribution, Samsung will join hands with UEH to build and develop the University, contributing to improving training quality for a sustainable development community.

Continuing traditional values – Accessing modern technology and art

As a cultural feature forged over the past 47 years, the traditional flag procession officially marks the beginning of a new generation at UEH.

Flag procession ceremony led by the traditional flag of the University of Economics Ho Chi Minh City and the school’s highest achievements over the past 47 years, including the title of Labor Hero and the First Class Independence Medal awarded by the President.

Followed by flags from UEH College of Business; UEH College of Economics, Law and Government; UEH College of Technology and Design; School of Foreign Languages; School of Politics; ISB International School of Business and Vinh Long Campus currently having students of the 49th batch. All of them have portrayed an image of a Multidisciplinary and Sustainable University, ready for the future.

Next, representing the generation of UEH students who have just graduated – Alumni of Batch 45 – Pham Vu Phuong Anh – Outstanding valedictorian in Finance presented the traditional flag to the new valedictorians of Batch 49 at Hall A.116 and Bui Huu Thien – alumni of K45, City-level student of 5 merits 2022, UEH 2022’s most outstanding student of 5 merits returned the honorary logo to the new salutatorians of K49 at Hall B1.302 school the hope that students will continue to foster the spirit of learning, further promote dynamism, creativity and together develop a community that has positive impacts on society.

In addition to communication values, the K49 Opening Ceremony brought a modern space with displays combining “Smart” elements (the exhibition of Galaxy Campus) and “Green” elements (green space and green actions). Along with that was the MV debut stage “Wonder You” dedicated to K49 – depicting young people who were on a journey to discover and open themselves. No matter what that journey was like, they were still a ” “Wonder” – A “Wonder You”. TVC decoded the new generation of “SMART” and “GREEN” with “Unbounded creativity,  Empowered future, Holistic values” and attractive music performances from young singers CARA and Pham Dinh Thai Ngan – who always strives every day and has become the best version of an artist full of freedom and passion.

The ceremony took place successfully, with many emotions and meanings. As one of the parents attending the Opening Ceremony, Ms. Tran Hong Nguyen – parent of Tran Nhu Quynh, representing the families of outstanding students, sent a message to new students on the occasion of the opening of the new school year: “As a parent, I hope that my children’s choice will be the right choice and always believe that UEH will be the best choice for them to fulfill their dreams. In the new academic year, I respectfully wish University of Economics Ho Chi Minh City – a multi-disciplinary university to develop more and more. I wish new students a good knowledge base and a career base to enter life, and I hope that every step of your college journey will always be filled with joy and knowledge discovery.”
