Conference on the Implementation of Action Programs, University of Economics Ho Chi Minh in the period of 2023-2025

On October 4, 2023, the Prime Minister signed Decision No. 1146 to transform University of Economics Ho Chi Minh City University (UEH) into a University, officially becoming one of the 7 higher education institutions in Vietnam operating under the model of “Multi-disciplinary university”. In order to officially inform about this event, as well as to prepare the key tasks that need to be done in the remaining time of the 2020-2025 term, UEH organized the Conference on the Implementation of Action Programs, University of Economics Ho Chi Minh in the period of 2023-2025 on the morning of October 11, 2023.

The transformation from a “single-discipline university” into a “multidisciplinary university” is an important milestone in the 50-year journey of development and accumulation of endogenous capacity of UEH, especially the persistent efforts of the UEH Board of Directors, along with all officials, lecturers, and the UEHer community who have made outstanding contributions in training, research, and knowledge transfer activities over the years.

This event also posed new requirements for development journey of UE  in the next stage. Therefore, on the morning of October 11, UEH organized “Conference on the Implementation of Action Programs, University of Economics Ho Chi Minh in the period of 2023-2025”, preparing key tasks to be carried out in the remaining period of the 2020 – 2025 term.

Participating in the Conference was Prof.Dr. Nguyen Dong Phong – Party Committee Secretary, Chairman of UEH Council; Prof.Dr. Su Dinh Thanh – President; Dr. Dinh Cong Khai – Vice President; Associate Professor, Dr. Nguyen Khac Quoc Bao – Vice President; Associate Professor, Dr. Phan Thi Bich Nguyet – Chairwoman of the Strategy and Policy Advisory Council; with the lecturers and employees of the UEH Board of Directors; President of UEH Union; Secretary of UEH Youth Union; President of the Student Association ; President of the Veterans Association; Board of Directors/Secretaries of the Party Committee of divisions, Presidents of the Unions of divisions, Secretaries of the Youth Union of Colleges under UEH and Vinh Long Campus; Heads and deputy heads of units under UEH; Heads and deputy heads of units of UEH Colleges and Vinh Long Campus attending the Conference.

Overview of the Conference

The conference emphasized the goal of maintaining the QS-A, THE IMPACT, and participating in the raking of THE, thereby, identifying the key tasks that need to be performed during the remaining period of the 2020 – 2025 term as well as those that need to be performed when transforming from “University” into “University” including:

Training: Maximizing the scale of training at all levels associated with UEH’s capacity; Successfully deploying full and partial English training programs; Ensuring quality in implementing technology-related training programs (periodically reviewed and evaluated); The university post-graduate admissions must ensure that the ratio of graduate majors is equal to 50% of the undergraduate majors besides a close connection between training and research at postgraduate levels.

Quality accreditation and program development: Promoting internationalization of quality accreditation tasks; Reviewing the implementation of FIBBA’s recommendations in improving the quality of training programs; Implementing activities to review and continuously improve training programs; Digitizing and applying information technology to ensure and certify the quality of training programs; Investing in the development of training programs to consolidate the multi-disciplinary and university model firmly.

Scientific research and international cooperation: Ensuring international publication performance to be maintained at 0.7 articles/lecturer/year; Increasing the international publication rated in Q1 and Q2 journals of ISI and SCOPUS (85%); Strengthening applied research and consulting on regional and local development policies, ensure the sustainable maintenance of 10-15% of revenue from science and technology; Increasing the rate of international faculty and student exchange; Spreading UEH’s image and academic reputation on prestigious domestic and regional scientific forums.

Administration: Deploying punctually the transformation of the School into a UEH University to soon put the UEH University model into stable operation; Investing in infrastructure to meet the development requirements of the member colleges according to the University model; Investing in improving the quality of human resources for new majors according to the multi-disciplinary University model.

Prof.Dr. Su Dinh Thanh – President of UEH – emphasized: “To soon realize the goal of turning UEH into a university with an academic reputation in the region by 2025; UEH leaders call on all UEH officials, lecturers, and employees to unite, work together, and be proactive and creative in training, scientific research, and administration to successfully implement the UEH’s development goals following the Multi-disciplinary University model.

Expressing support and determination for the University’s strategy, representatives of the Board of Directors of UEH Member Colleges, UEH Union, and Graduate School emphasized their commitment to promote the capacity of from Units, Departments, Divisions, to individual teachers, officials and employees in all aspects of training, research, administration, operation, scientific consulting and knowledge transfer to the community in the context that UEH becomes a Multidisciplinary and Sustainable University.

Dr. Thai Kim Phung – Vice Head of UEH College of Technology and Design (CTD) – congratulating and committing that CTD would support and make efforts to develop UEH

Associate Professor, Dr. Pham Khanh Nam – Vice Head of the College of Economics, Law and Government (CELG) – committing to developing the school’s strengths in scientific research, international cooperation, and policy consulting in the public sector, for the common development of UEH

Speaking at the conclusion of the Conference, Prof.Dr. Nguyen Dong Phong – Secretary of the Party Committee, Chairman of the UEH Council – proposed:

“The remaining task of the term until 2025 is that units need to build their action programs towards a Multidisciplinary University and sustainable development. Specificallym The Party Committee and Board of Directors will plan for the annual strategy; the Colleges and Schools need to have specific programs for their units, closely following the overall strategy; The Departments/Divisions determine specifically what to do and submit to the Board of Directors for approval from all aspects of training activities, finance, facilities, etc. UEH currently has 3 Member Colleges, in the near future there will be another College established according to the plan, which is the ISB. We advocate strongly for developing Vinh Long Campus and forming Nha Trang Campus.

After this conference, leaders of Colleges, Schools, Departments, and Institutes need to deploy the conference content to all lecturers and staff to strive together for the growth of UEH University. Party organizations, Unions, and Associations deploy to union members in their organizations on the development of UEH University. Lecturers continue to contribute to the development of UEH in training, research, and consulting so that we can warmly welcome the 50^th anniversary of UEH on October 27, 2026. The Party Committee and Board of Directors of the Council once again thank the contributions of lecturers, officials, and employees in recent times to the UEH brand, and believe in the further growth of UEH in the domestic market, which strongly integrates into the world higher education.”

Conference on the Implementation of Action Programs, University of Economics Ho Chi Minh in the period of 2023-2025 took place successfully towards a new journey with a new position.
